The Statute was signed in 2000 by the Rectors and Presidents of hundreds of universities: it constitutes the reference body for the Education and Research area.
Its main purpose is to encourage and promote systematic information, the exchange of common experiences, and the identification of examples of good practice; to create opportunities for universities to compare themselves within the framework of research programmes; to increase processes of exchange and communication of skills and resources for good university administration; to establish joint degree courses for several universities; and to set up systematic exchanges between students from the various universities.
Many initiatives have been carried out over more than two decades with the involvement of thousands of students.
