National Day of Memory and Commitment for Innocent Victims
The President of the Legality and Rights Commission Sen. Giuseppe Lumia spoke in Piedmont on the occasion of the "National Day of Memory and Commitment for Innocent Victims".
Alongside the national event in Trapani - where, thanks to the "Libera" association, the country's critical and conscious attention is focused - it was decided to highlight in Piedmont the reminder for each of us of a fight that must avoid, after the capture and death of Matteo Messina Denaro, thinking that cosa nostra is over.
Senator Lumia expressed himself thus:
"In front of thousands and thousands of people, all the names of the innocent victims of the mafias, whom we often forget along with their example and sacrifice, were read out and repeatedly chanted.
We are unfortunately losing ground on a cultural and social level in the fight against the mafia, but also on a regulatory level. It is enough to think of how many dangerous bosses are escaping the rigours of prison by resuming their activities in their own territories, without underestimating the massive drug trafficking and the continuous reproduction of collusion with sectors of the economy and politics.
This is why rethinking and re-motivating memory and commitment is more necessary than ever for the future of our country and Europe itself. This year, too, we have chosen to stand alongside a projectual path of real liberation from the ‘ndrangheta’ at the entrance to the Susa Valley in Piedmont. In Alpignano and Caselette, step by step, we are regenerating a commitment that frees territories and institutions from the presence of bosses that, particularly with Giuseppe Ursino, linked to Rocco Lo Presti, was becoming a serious problem".
The "Stairs of Legality" project enables citizens to know and thus cultivate good memories of the innocent victims of mafias and to stimulate practices of real change.
School children are the main protagonists of the regeneration season, because they are animated by the same vital energy that Spring arouses in nature.
