The United States of the World and the Fondazione Mediterraneo honour Abdelwahed Radi, the man who lived Morocco

The United States of the World and the Fondazione Mediterraneo paid tribute to Abdelwahed Radi, who died on Sunday 26 March 2023 in a Paris clinic.
Deeply moved, Michele Capasso, President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo and Secretary General of the United States of the World, recalled the most significant moments of a fraternal friendship that lasted more than 25 years.
"Abdelwahed Radi has had a rich life. A politician like no other in Morocco, he was a leading figure in the country's modern history. The number of personalities present at his funeral at the Chouhadas cemetery in Rabat, two days after his death, is enough to illustrate his stature. These included Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan himself and Prince Moulay Rachid,' said Michele Capasso.
But also the head of the government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the president of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami. Not to mention his fellow fighters in the Union socialiste des forces populaires (USFP), the party of which he was first secretary from November 2008 to December 2012, after being one of its founders in the mid-1970s.
The entire national political class is represented at his funeral, including Islamists in the person of the Secretary General of the Party for Justice and Development (PJD) and former head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane. In a message to the family, King Mohammed VI expressed his "deepest condolences and condolences" and emphasised Abdelwahed Radi's "human and political journey" and his "sincerity and self-sacrifice in serving the country and constantly defending the nation's just causes".
He also praised the deceased's 'great statesmanship'.
When King Hassan II appointed him secretary general of the Arab-African Union (UAA) in August 1984, which had been agreed with Gheddafi, he told Radi: 'I chose you because you are flexible but uncompromising on principles'. It must be said that Radi knew the late King from his early youth, during the construction of the Unity Road in 1957. The two men remained very close, even in times of opposition between the Palace and the USFP. In the end, Radi will not have done much with just one book to tell his story. But in any case, he will have lived it to the full. Like Morocco.
