In 1996, the United States of the World and the Fondazione Mediterraneo established the Mediterranean Awards (with various categories) that are granted every year to eminent personalities from the worlds of arts and culture, politics and science and social disciplines, whose actions have contributed to reducing tensions, breaking down cultural barriers and developing shared values in the Greater Mediterranean.
This Award is considered one of the most prestigious acknowledgements in the world.

President of the Moroccan Agency of Solar Energy - MOROCCO

The award was assigned Mustapha Bakouri for his efforts on renewable energy and sustainable development. As president of the Casablanca-Settat Region and of the Moroccan Agency of Solar Energy, he is committed in protecting the environment and developing energy everyday, while respecting the ecosystem and the quality of life. Its revolutionary aim to transform Morocco into one of the most energetic countries from an energy point of view has allowed the enhancement of large energy basins, setting itself as an example worldwide.

American Environmentalist

The Environmentalist American Tom Fox, the "guru" who has turned the water front of New York, received from the hands of the President and the Mayor of Naples Capasso De Magistris the "Mediterranean Award for 2013 to the environment.

Social Solidarity

Between 2011 and 2013 José Ornelas was one of the researchers of Housing First Europe, a social experimentation project on the EU level, developed, and funded by the European Commission.
This project brought together projects in several European cities, including five test sites where the approach was evaluated (Amsterdam, Budapest, Copenhagen, Glasgow and Lisboa), and facilitated the exchange of information and experiences with other cities where Housing First programs were planned or already implemented (Dublin, Gent, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Lille, Marseille, Paris, Toulouse and Vienna).
