The first G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Capri

The first of two meetings of G7 Foreign Ministers that will be hosted in Italy in 2024 was held in Capri. As stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, the aim is to strengthen the G7's role as the main forum for consultation among the major liberal democracies and as a factor for stability in the face of the major crises taking place at the global level.
The agenda therefore focused on the main issues at the centre of the international debate, starting with the situation in the Middle East. Among the topics discussed were the serious humanitarian crisis and the resumption of a meaningful and incisive political process for the "two peoples, two states" solution.
The worrying situation in the Red Sea also found a place on the G7 Foreign Ministers' agenda, with particular reference to the safety of shipping and the repercussions on trade routes, particularly to the Mediterranean.
The Italian Presidency also sought to renew cooperation with Africa in a spirit of mutual respect.
Although Israel's response to Iran disrupted the proceedings, major global issues also found their way into the debate. These included food security, energy security, the fight against climate change, cyber security and Artificial Intelligence, which opens up enormous opportunities but presents significant risks for humanity.
Secretary-General Michele Capasso, on his return from Gaza, was in Capri on 18 and 19 April, emphasising the role played since 1987 by the "United States of the World" in achieving "two Peoples in two States" with the historic visits of Arafat, Abu Mazen and Shimon Peres to Naples.

Appeal for Gaza

Secretary General Michele Capasso and other members of the United States of the World launched, in connection with Gaza, yet another appeal for a truce and for respect for the lives of civilians who are dying of hunger and thirst.
On this occasion, the 1981 end-of-year speech by the then President of the Republic Sandro Pertini was recalled, who wisely anticipated the "Two Peoples in Two States" solution, as well as the writings of lawyer Gerardo Marotta in defence of the Palestinian people written at the headquarters of the United States of the World in April 2013.

States General of Artificial Intelligence

A SUM delegation attended the event.
Following the success of the 2022 and 2023 editions, this year Class Editori and Class Cnbc once again called together the most important exponents on Artificial Intelligence, for a discussion on the development prospects of an engine of progress that has now come to the attention of the world.
Through national and international speakers, the 'States General of Artificial Intelligence 2024' gave space to the most topical and burning aspects of the 'generative and multimodal revolution', including governance, fake news, copyright, ethics, privacy and new skills.
Practical applications on the use of Artificial Intelligence tools were of great importance this year, thanks to the testimonies of the best companies from the most dynamic sectors that have already been able to build the winning models and solutions of the future.
The themes of the event:

  • Regulation and regulation beyond the AI Act
  • AI and geopolitics: political-institutional strategies and policy actions
  • Fake news, copyright protection and the future of media
  • AI Visions: how businesses are facing the challenges of AI
  • New skills for new professions: the role of education and training
  • Success stories: practical applications of AI in various business sectors, including Manufacturing, Banking & Finance, IT & Space, Energy and Healthcare.

Secretary General Prof. Michele Capasso warned of the unknowns and risks of AI for the whole of humanity if it is not managed as a 'common good' at the service of all and not as a new opportunity to 'imprison' human intelligence by enslaving it to new global economic and power systems.

The United States of the World condemns Iran's attack on Israel

The United States of the World expressed its condemnation of the attack that Tehran launched against Israel: an attack with dozens of drones and missiles, some of which were intercepted over the skies of Jordan and Syria.
"Without a halt to the conflict in Gaza, the Middle East risks exploding," said Secretary-General Michele Capasso.

Presentation of Riccardo Milani's film "Un mondo a parte"

On the occasion of the meeting of the Council of Ambassadors and the Board of Directors of the "United States of the World" held in Naples and Rome, Secretary-General Prof. Michele Capasso proposed the screening of the film "Un mondo a parte" by Riccardo Milani, starring Antonio Albanese and Virginia Raffaele and, especially, the inhabitants of Pescasseroli and other countries in the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.
Secretary General Capasso expressed - together with the members of the association - his appreciation for the film, reinforced by his familiarity for over 55 years with those places and, in particular, the town of Pescasseroli.
"Attention to small villages such as 'Mondo a parte' is important in this difficult moment in history because it is possible to combine integration of migrants with development of inland areas": these were the conclusions, together with the proposal to award the prestigious "Mediterranean Cinema Award" of the United States of the World to all the protagonists and authors of the film work, also in consideration of the fact that Pescasseroli, Opi and the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park are part of the "United States of the World" and one of the first works of the "Totem for Peace" was made precisely in Pescasseroli.
A special thought was addressed to Tiziano Gentile, "actor" in the film but valuable collaborator in the construction of the "Totem for Peace" in Pescasseroli in 2010.
